The Reaching Higher Story
Children today are living faster, more stressful lives. Hectic
schedules, conflict at home, pressures to perform at school,
and wanting to be accepted by their peers. As teachers in
the schools, we've seen it and recognize the outcome for
many children; a child starts to believe they can't keep up,
so they give up.
Since 1997, the Reaching Higher program has been invited
into the schools to help students learn how to instill
confidence in themselves greatly impacting their ability to
improve their relationships at home, school, and more
importantly, with themselves, so they can manage their lives
in a healthy way and reach their full potential.
Today, Reaching Higher partners with the Detroit Public
schools and neighboring public and private schools to bring
the Reaching Higher principals to hundreds of their students
each year.
"It is our mission to instill passion and confidence in the lives of
our children. When you see a child begin to open up and share
themselves, it truly is a gift that you know will help lead them in a
positive direction. We hope to grow and expand our reach in
alignment with God's will."

Consider these frightening statistics
• 5.1 million teens say they binge drink
• 1 in 3 high school girls report thinking about
suicide at least once in a 2-week period
• 3 million American teenagers are infected
each year with a sexually transmitted disease
• 15% of all violent deaths in American
schools are suicides
Together, we can turn these numbers around.

A Teacher's View
Jerry Davis, a fifth grade teacher at Peter Vetal
reports that students in his classroom are
"Reaching Higher". Four students were able to
reach the academic honor roll, others showed
increases in grade points, due to added self-
confidence and the positive choices they are making.
